The Problem:
In India, only 10 - 12% of menstruating women use sanitary napkins and 88 -90% of women are estimated to follow alternatives such as unhygienic cloth ,sand, ash, newspapers, dried leaves, ...due to lack of affordability making them prone to fungal, urinary and reproductive tract infections .
Inadequate menstrual protection makes adolescent girls (age group 12-18 years) miss 5 days of school in a month (50 days a year). Around 23% of these girls actually drop out of school after they started menstruating.
Our support
Availability & affordability:
After educating on menstrual hygiene we provide low cost sanitary napkins (manufactured by local self-help women groups SHGs ) and sanitary napkin vending machines in government schools we enable the girls practice a safe and healthy menstruation and prevent them from dropping out of school during their menstrual cycle.
The Impact :
A packet of sanitary napkins bought from the SHGs comes to Rs. 10 (pack of 4). A donation from you can ensure safety and sanitation to the underprivileged girls during menstruation.
