“Every year we read about so many deaths during the harsh cold months of the winter. Those sleeping by the roadside without a roof over their heads - imagine their condition in this bitter cold. Chandni and I both grew up in the slums. We had a tough childhood and every day was a struggle. Harsh weather like the scorching summer heat or the chilling winters worsened matters. We are not new to the pain and suffering of these homeless people on the road, so each winter, we do our best to give them the love and warmth they deserve,” - Dev Pratap Singh, Co-Founder of Voice of Slum.   

The suffering of the homeless and slum dwellers during this season is beyond imagination 

As we cozy up in the warmth of our homes, there are countless souls battling the biting cold on the streets and slums of India. Little children shiver under tattered blankets, and families huddle together for a little bit of warmth. While winters bring picnics, vacations, and family gatherings for us, for the poor and the underprivileged, it brings a host of medical conditions. Respiratory illnesses, frostbite, and hypothermia become constant companions, claiming the health and hope of those who are already vulnerable. 

Like every year, they plan to distribute warm blankets and winter clothes to those in need. The warmth these items provide goes beyond the physical; it's a symbolic gesture of solidarity, a reminder that someone cares about their well-being. Despite Chandni and Dev's resilience and determination, some challenges pose a hurdle in their mission.

“We have limited resources and often operational issues add to that. As a result, we are unable to carry out this distribution drive at a scale we would like to. This is where we need your support,” Dev explains.

About the NGO: Chandni and Dev Pratap founded Voice of Slum in 2016, driven by their own experiences growing up in a slum. They understand the struggles and hardships that come with such living conditions, and they don't want other children to miss out on the childhood they deserve. Their empathy and motivation to make a difference in the lives of others inspired them to create Voice Voice of Slum. The NGO is dedicated to providing slum children with education and employment opportunities so they can reach their full potential. Their mission is to empower these children and give them the opportunities they deserve. Starting in a small hut with just a few children, the organization has grown to empower hundreds of children in the slums of Noida.
