This Diwali, Be A Ray Of Hope For The Widows Of Our Brave Martyrs

    Project

Diwali is a time of joy, light, and togetherness—a festival to celebrate with our family, our friends, the people who make us feel whole. But have we ever paused to think about those whose loved ones will never return home?

Every day, our soldiers stand on the frontlines, braving unimaginable hardships to protect us. They fight with unwavering courage, knowing that behind them are families who love them and believe in the cause they serve. But some of these families pay the ultimate price

For every soldier who falls in battle, a wife is left behind—her world shattered, her heart aching, yet her spirit unbroken. These are the Veer Naris—the wives of our fallen heroes—who carry the weight of loss not just for a moment but for a lifetime.

For these widows, Diwali brings back bittersweet memories

They face festivals like Diwali with heavy hearts, surrounded by memories of the laughter that once filled their homes. Even with such grief, these women never falter. All of them wish to send their children into the Indian armed forces, continuing the legacy of bravery that claimed their husbands.

For the past 21 years, the Veer Nari Shakti Resettlement Foundation (VSRF) has stood by these women, supporting them through psychological services, skill development, and rehabilitation. Born in the aftermath of the Kargil War, the foundation has reached more than 7 lakh families—giving them the strength to rebuild and find hope again

“The trauma of celebrating Diwali without a loved one is beyond words. While the world lights up with joy, these brave women sit with memories of smiles and moments that can never return,” - Prashant, VSRF

This Diwali, as we light lamps in our homes and celebrate with our loved ones, let’s not forget the Veer Naris who will sit quietly, holding onto memories of a love lost to duty. The least we can do is embrace them as part of our own family and honour their strength and sacrifice.

This is our chance to give back

This Diwali let’s help these women stand on their own feet and secure a brighter future for their children.Even a small contribution can bring Diwali joy to them —filling their celebration with sweets, dry fruits, gifts, diyas, and the warmth of hope. Together, we can create a special Diwali for them this year and for their children.

About the NGO: For the past 21 years, VSRF has been dedicated to supporting the veer naris of our martyred soldiers across 11 armed forces. Established in the aftermath of the Kargil War (Operation Vijay) in 1999, the foundation has been a pillar of strength for over 7 lakh families. They have facilitated psychological and rehabilitation services for martyr widows (war widows, battle casualty, and physical casualty widows), disabled soldiers, and disabled dependents of soldiers from all Indian Armed Forces and CAPF.
