Help Train Thousands Of Youth In Uttarakhand To Join The Indian Army

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

The Kedarnath floods in 2013 have had a devastating effect on the state and its people. In June 2013, a multi-day cloudburst centered on Uttarakhand caused floods and landslides. As per government reports, more than 5,700 people were presumed dead in the disaster. There was a huge loss in the property as well.

“I was leading the rescue operations in the Kedarnath valley and I could see with my own eyes how much the floods had ravaged the villages. The villagers had lost their livelihood and they were struggling to feed their families. So many of them came up to me asking for help, they hoped that I would be able to help their children get some income opportunities,” - Colonel Ajay Kothiyal, Kirti Chakra, Shaurya Chakra, VSM (retd).

    How it all started?

Post the 2013 floods, Col. Kothiyal decided to start the Youth Foundation Uttarakhand to provide a platform to impart free training to underprivileged youth to get jobs and flare the passion towards nation building.

The organization is committed to the upliftment of people from Uttarakhand by providing free of cost training to the youth for joining the Indian Army, Para Military and other uniformed forces.

The Youth Foundation wants to shape their character, to make these young men and women responsible citizens of the country.

The organisation also works to ensure free treatment for those who cannot afford decent healthcare. They organize medical camps in association with the renowned doctors of AIIMS, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital etc in the remote areas of Uttarakhand, identify patients suffering from chronic ailments and work towards giving them a better life.

“The people of the mountains have very little employment opportunities available to them. They can either try getting employment in the Char Dham Yatra related tourism sector, or they can strive for selection into the Army and other uniformed forces. With limited education and skill sets, these youths often find themselves underpaid and exploited. My sole aim is to help them and give them a future they deserve.”

Your support will make a difference

Col. Kothiyal had started with 32 boys from nearby villages and provided them with free of cost training, food and accommodation in order to prepare them to face the Army recruitment process. He had borne the expenses of this training from his own salary. 28 out of 32 boys got selected and successfully joined the Indian army.

“That made me realise that whatever I was doing was bearing fruits. Today, the foundation has 8 camps training thousands of youth (boys and girls) to join the armed forces and has expanded to 5 remote districts of Uttarakhand to help underprivileged patients, in association with 5 key hospitals based in Delhi.”

But they want to reach out to many more people in need and help provide employment opportunities to the youth in this region. For that they need your support. Youth Foundation Uttarakhand is appealing to all of you to donate groceries to feed the underprivileged from the remote villages of Uttarakhand and uniforms for young men and women who want to apply for the belted forces. Every donation you make will create a great impact.
