Project
“A few days ago, we got a rescue call for a gaumata in terrible pain because of a problematic pregnancy. Our rescue team immediately brought her to the hospital and she gave birth to a healthy calf, thanks to an urgent C-section performed by our skilled vets. Seeing the mother and the calf healthy, we were all filled with happiness. These animals have no one to care for them, it is on us that we do our best to protect them,” - Monu, son of Rohtash.
2 years back, Rohtash started a shelter-cum-hospital called Salasar Baba Thakur Gauvansh Chikitsalaya in Jhajjar, Haryana. He had seen many gaushalas taking care of abandoned and injured cows in India but he soon realised that there was a shortage of fully equipped hospitals for these animals. Thus began his journey to serve the diseased and injured cows.
Even when his son was battling rare condition, Rohtash was determined to continue serving the gaumatas
Two years ago, when Monu was diagnosed with rare condition, the family was heartbroken. But even in his darkest days, Rohtash refused to give up on these helpless animals.
“While we were heartbroken when Monu got diagnosed with rare condition, I knew I couldn’t leave these animals on their own. In fact, everyone in my family supported my decision and together we fought through those tough times. Today, Monu is fine and both my sons and my wife are working tirelessly to give the gaumatas a better life,” - Rohtash, Founder, Salasar Baba Thakur Gauvansh Chikitsalaya.
The hospital receives 15-20 rescue calls on a daily basis and none of them goes unanswered. They have treated accident cases, acid burn cases, and also that of bovine rare condition.
“We have around 4 ambulances and a dedicated team of 5 veterinary doctors who work day and night to give these cows a comfortable life. We have performed around 400+ surgeries that include C-sections, hernia removal, horn rare condition, amputation, or taking out iron and plastic from the stomach of the cows.”
Not just cows, the gaushala-cum-hospital has saved thousands of animals including peacocks, monkeys, and nilgais. Currently, they are a safe home to 500+ cows out of which hundreds are paralysed and need constant care. Most of their residents are too weak to live on the roads - they need to be fed and require round-the-clock medical attention. The Chikitsalaya’s staff does everything they can to give these animals the life they deserve.
You can support Rohtash to save many more cows in need
Rohtash’s family is a ray of hope to all those cows who have no one to look after them. They would have been stranded on the roads and forced to feed off garbage if not for the dedicated team of Salasar Baba Thakur Gauvansh Chikitsalaya. Rohtash wants to rescue many more animals in need and for that, he needs your support.
