Forced To Beg On The Roads, These Poor Children In Barsana Long For A Warm Meal

Located about 43 km from Vrindavan, Barsana is a small village situated between 2 small hills in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. It is said to be the birthplace of Radha, the chief consort of Lord Diety and this is where she spent her childhood. As a result, this town has become a major tourist attraction because of its cultural and religious significance.

“While we get many tourists around the year and the world gets to see the beautiful temples and imbibe in the divine aura, there are countless who have nothing to eat for days. The children are begging on the streets of the sacred Brajbhoomi and that pains me so much. We started the feeding program in 2016 with a few children and now we feed 450-500 of them daily,” - Gokul Chand, Shri Ji Barsana Mandal Trust.

These kids survive on empty stomachs for days - they deserve a better childhood

“My grandfather has been my biggest inspiration, he is the one who has always urged me to give back to society. Whether planting saplings, distributing blankets, or even feeding the poor, I have always been involved in social service. The happiness and satisfaction from this are incomparable.”

Founded in 2016, this Trust has been feeding nutritious meals to hundreds of underprivileged kids in Barsana for the last 7 years. Gokulji and his team strive hard to ensure that none of these children go hungry or are forced to beg for food.

While the kids come to have food during the evening, Gokul ji’s volunteers go to nearby villages during the day to feed those who can’t afford a single meal. Gokul ji wants to continue this work and even help these children with education but the shortage of funds is a big issue. There have been days when he has had to borrow groceries on credit or request people to help him feed these poor kids. Despite all the challenges, he has refused to stop the feeding drive for even a single day.

Gokul ji is on a mission to stop children in Barsana from begging. He wants to feed them nutritious food and educate them. He believes that the future of a country depends on that of its children and he wants to do his bit to serve the nation.

“The Lord has chosen me to be a medium to serve and I shall do my best to uplift the poor and the underprivileged. I request you all to support us - we are in dire need of groceries and a food van so that we can reach out to many more in need.”
