Stories are everywhere nowadays. Our social media feeds are filled with people talking about their personal journeys, with some success stories, some stories of pain – but there’s never a dearth of them. It can be easy to get lost in this sea of stories, where sometimes people’s efforts go unnoticed. At Donatekart, we work closely with so many incredible people and NGOs who have dedicated their lives to the betterment of others – and their voices need to be heard.

Through #DonatekartSpotlight, we’ll focus on two causes every week to highlight their work, give you an in-depth look at their organisation, the people behind it and what makes it unique. These stories are all heart, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

Chandrashekhar Kundu and Lalitha both believe that all children deserve a chance to have a better and brighter future. They want to ensure that these kids are given the love, care and the right opportunities. They’re truly a ray of hope for underprivileged kids, and these are their stories.

Chandrashekhar Kundu – Founder of Food Education and Economic Development (FEED)

Chandrashekhar Kundu is a teacher at the Engineering College in Asansol, West Bengal and it was from here that he started his noble initiative of feeding the poor and underprivileged children. In 2016, Chandrashekhar started FEED (Food Education and Economic Development) with the aim of eliminating malnutrition among children. Today, he not only does he feed over a thousand underprivileged children of coal miners and daily wage labourers in and around the city, but also provides them with educational and medical support.

“We’ve set up community kitchens across three localities in Asansol. These kitchens are run by volunteers. We’ve also been working hard to educate these kids. Most of them are first-generation learners and I believe with proper guidance they can have a great future.” – Chandrashekhar Kundu

Chandrashekhar Kundu believes that we can all join hands to make India a better place for future generations. Read more about his story here.

Lalitha S.A – Vice President of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID)

“There is so much stigma and discrimination associated with sex work. They don’t even have basic rights and their entire life is filled with pain and suffering for no fault of theirs. We at SPID have opened our doors to the children of the sex workers who would have otherwise been forced to live in horrific conditions. We give them proper healthcare, a nutritional diet, and an education to help them stand on their own feet,” – Lalitha S.A

SPID has been working for the last 20 years to make a difference in the lives of sex workers and their children. Currently, their shelter homes are safe havens for 100 children. While they are headquartered in Delhi, they also work out of 5 districts in Uttar Pradesh. They focus on strengthening the local governing bodies in order to empower communities irrespective of their caste, creed, and religion. They believe that these children have the potential to reach great heights and build a bright future for themselves.
