Animals with disabilities, like humans, have special needs. All they require is some extra love and care. Mobility issues, such as joint pain or a missing limb, may occur in some animals. On a daily basis, we encounter a large number of stray animals under these conditions. There are also some who are born with disabilities. This means that their entire life becomes a struggle.
We can’t make their disability go away, but we can help them live happier lives with some extra care.
What are the challenges faced by these animals?
The saddest part of all this is that when owners learn about their pets’ disabilities, they sometimes abandon them, making their lives miserable. Instead of protecting the blind or deaf strays from traffic accidents, they are left on their own. Many areas become extremely dark at night, resulting in vehicles running over homeless animals, particularly smaller ones like cats and dogs. The owners are unwilling to take responsibility for their treatment and leave them to fend for themselves. As a result, these animals succumb to their condition and die a painful death.
How can we help these animals?
While we do see cases of animal cruelty and abandonment every day, we also come across many such human beings who have dedicated their lives to the care of animals in pain. Compassion and empathy can go a long way in dealing with these animals with disabilities.
Founded by Hitesh Kansara, Shree Krishna Charitable Trust has been focused on helping disabled and sick cows. Cows whose leg has been amputated are literally being served a death warrant as the weight of the cow makes it very difficult for cows to survive for long. The ordeal that the cows have to face cannot be expressed in words.
This Gujarat-based organisation has decided to team up with Gurgaon-based Society for Human Welfare and Empowerment to provide prosthetic limbs for all those cows and bulls that have faced accidents and had to have their legs amputated.
Shree Krishna Charitable Trust has decided to help over 500 disabled and injured cows in multiple gaushalas of India. With proper care and medical attention, this effort is sure to bear fruits.
