Over 150 Children In India Are Born With Clubfoot Every Day, Donate To Give Them A Better Life

    Project

Priya’s parents have been worried about their 10-year-old daughter. The child is born with a clubfoot deformity and is unable to walk properly. While any fixed cause of this congenital birth defect is unknown, the foot is twisted out of shape or position. Seeing Priya struggle with walking, her parents sought options to help make their daughter’s life more comfortable. They finally found their answer in CURE International India Trust - an organization working since 2009 to support families with clubfoot deformities.

For the last 14 years, CURE International India Trust (CURE India) has had only one vision - making clubfoot deformity a history in India. With over 150 children being born with clubfoot in India every day, treating this deformity is essential. They have been committed to establishing teaching hospitals, wherever there is a need, as well as specialty community welfare programs globally.

CURE India wants to give thousands of children a happy childhood

The organisation has changed the lives of 97,000+ children with the help of 369 clinics across India and they have also successfully trained 7850 doctors to help these children in need. They work closely with the ASHA workers and the Anganwadi teachers to identify and screen all those kids in rural India who’re in need of medical intervention.

CURE India used the non-surgical procedure called the Ponseti method of stretching and multiple casting followed by wearing braces. The entire process is carried out without charging even a single rupee to the parents who more often than not belong to the lower economic strata. They also have a 24x7 clubfoot helpline for every state in India.

“Our main aim is to reach the poorest of the poor and help them overcome this condition. We are the largest program in the world catering to clubfoot deformities and we want to show everyone that with the right treatment at the right time, countless children will get a better life. There is still so much stigma associated with this deformity - parents are discouraged to send their children to school or worse, terminate a pregnancy when ultrasounds show that a baby has clubfoot. We are working hard to change that,” - Dr. Santosh George, Director, CURE India International Trust.

Lack of awareness and financial constraints often don’t allow families to undergo treatment and as a result, these children are forced to live a life of misery. They don’t get proper education and are unable to get a good job - many of them end up begging on the streets.

“We’re here to show the world that this need not be their reality. Over these 14 years, we have had so many success stories, where our patients have gone on to become tennis champs!” - Harshita Dutta, Project Coordinator.

Help them make a world of difference by donating now

CURE India strives to build an equal and more inclusive world and with your help, they can make their dream a reality. They intend to wipe out clubfoot from the face of the earth and for that, they need to reach out to many more children in need. You can donate the clubfoot braces and help them save many more lives. Every donation will help a child stand tall on their own feet.
