Project
“Hunger doesn’t know rich or poor, old or young. It is persistent and spares no one. While people like us are lucky to have two square meals daily, millions in India struggle to survive. For the last five years, I have worked tirelessly to feed the poor and the underprivileged on the Vrindavan Parikrama Marg. Their happiness and satisfaction fill my heart with joy,” - Ghanshyam Shastri, Founder, Shyama Shyam Seva Path.
I have seen the hungry helplessly lying down on the Yamuna Ghat in the hope of a morsel of food
Ghanshyam recalls the days of the pandemic when he had seen thousands of hungry people starving on the streets of Vrindavan - begging for a little food. That was when he resolved to scale up his feeding drive and since then he has been feeding nutritious meals to over 500 people on a daily basis.
“Everyone was scared and no one wanted to come out of their homes. It was a frightening sight to see so many people - senior citizens, children - suffering without food. I couldn’t sit back at home and luckily many others joined me too. Since then, there’s been no looking back. Every day, we cook rice, dal, poori, sabzi and pile them up on the e - rickshaw. Then at 7 in the evening, we start our feeding drive. The queues are long and often it becomes late. But when I see the old, the challenged, and even little children eagerly waiting for us, all my efforts seem worthy.”
On a monthly basis, the expenses shoot up to a lakh and most of it is borne with the help of donations of kind people. Those who can’t donate money, donate rice, aata, and other grocery items. Ghanshyam personally goes door to door, requesting them to help him feed many more in need. Despite all his efforts, Ghanshyam is facing financial difficulties and needs support to continue his feeding drive.
Every donation you make will help this man feed many more hungry souls
Vrindavan is considered to be one of the most spiritual cities in India. Made up of countless temples of Lord Diety and Radha, lush greenery, and thousands of devotees and sadhus, Vrindavan’s charm and magic are hard to ignore. This holy city is said to be one of the oldest and most important places of pilgrimage. But it is also a city with a huge poor population, abandoned widows, and hungry souls in need of help. Ghanshyam is determined to make a difference and feed warm meals to the hungry and malnourished.
“Currently, we’re in need of groceries and a vehicle that will help us reach out to many more in need. With your support, we are certain that hundreds of people will get to eat nutritious food.”
