This 22-Day-Old Baby Is Fighting To Stay Alive In The NICU, Help His Poor Parents Save His Life

“I still can’t hold him in my arms. It’s been more than twenty days since my son was born, and I haven’t been able to carry him even once. All a mother wants is for her child to be healthy, but my baby is fighting to stay alive. He’s on ventilator support and has so many tubes connected to his tiny body. Every time I see him, I can’t help but cry. My husband and I are trying our best to stay strong, but how can we when we know we could lose him if we don’t get help?” - Ashwini, mother

When Ashwini and Chandane Yogesh got married two years ago, they envisioned being parents one day. They didn’t ask for much - a small and happy family was all they wanted. Unfortunately, fate had other plans for this couple. Their baby boy was born two months premature and was immediately rushed to the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) where he has spent the last 22 days struggling to survive.

The Parents Didn’t Have Any Money To Afford His Medicines

“I remember when the doctor came out of the operation theater and told me we had had a baby boy, and for a second I was happy that everything was fine, but before I could even react I was told that his condition was critical. He had to be taken to the NICU and needed medicines and injections urgently. I was devastated and didn’t have enough money to even buy one injection for him. I frantically called my friends, and finally was able to borrow money to start his treatment.” - Yogesh, Father

Ashwini and Yogesh’s baby boy was born in the 7th month of her pregnancy, struggling to breathe and with severe pneumonia. He was also born underweight and has a hole in his gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The little one has only known pain ever since his birth, and his parents are heartbroken watching him suffer so much. Yogesh has borrowed from his friends and relatives so far to pay for his son’s treatment, but it’s not enough. Their baby still needs to stay in the NICU for over a month and they need 4,00,000 lakhs to continue his treatment.

“I work as a daily wage labourer and earn a couple of hundreds per day when there is work. But ever since our baby was born I haven’t been able to go anywhere. I sleep outside the hospital every night, and eat whatever little food I can. How can I afford to continue his treatment? I will do anything for my baby, I just want him to make it through this.” - Yogesh

Their Newborn’s Condition Is Improving, But His Fight Isn’t Over Yet

Ashwini and Yogesh’s baby is a fighter. His condition is slowly and steadily improving, however, this is not the end of his struggle. He has to stay in the NICU for one more month to completely recover.

“If we’re not able to continue his treatment, we could lose him. He’s been so brave and made it this far, we can’t give up now. I dream of the day I take my baby home in my arms, and I need your help to make a mother’s dream come true.” - Ashwini

Your support can save Ashwini and Yogesh’s newborn baby and give them the family they’ve always hoped for.
