Arpita & Jaydeep Live In Fear Of Losing Their Newborn, Help Save Their Only Child
Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.
Project
On 13th January, as Arpita and Jaydeep Padule went about the usual activities in their small home in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, something suddenly changed the course of their day. Arpita, 7 months pregnant, started feeling severe pain in her abdomen. Barely able to stand, she called out to Jaydeep who rushed to her side.
“There was no time to waste. I quickly rented a taxi to take us to the nearest hospital in Pune and throughout our journey, I saw Arpita struggling. I was so scared that something would happen to her before we could make it to the hospital. I remember looking back at her and praying to God to keep my wife and baby safe. But just before we reached the hospital, our baby was born in the car,” says Jaydeep with tears in his eyes.
It’s been nearly 20 days since their beautiful baby girl was born, but Jaydeep and Arpita continue to live in fear of losing her.
Their Newborn Is In The NICU, Fighting To Stay Alive
Arpita and Jaydeep’s baby girl was born premature and with low birth weight. However, they soon found out that their newborn’s intestines were blocked. In premature babies with breathing difficulties, their first poop (meconium) can get thick and block their intestines, causing a problem called meconium ileus. This condition hinders normal bowel function, makes the belly swell, and can be serious.
“Because of this, she needed immediate procedure to unblock her intestine. The entire time that she was in the operation theatre, Arpita and I didn’t let go of each other’s hands. We never expected this to happen and the thought of losing her was too much to bear - we hadn’t even held her in our arms!”
Fortunately, their baby girl made it out of the procedure. However, her fight continues. She’s now in the NICU, with a tube attached to her so that she can be fed. She can’t be breastfed yet and isn’t strong enough to go home. While Jaydeep watches his only child through the glass of the NICU, Arpita is allowed to be with her for a few minutes during the day. Their baby’s condition is fragile.
He’s Given Up On Meals & Sleep To Save His Newborn’s Life
Jaydeep now spends his days running from the pharmacy to the billing section, and his nights wide awake outside the NICU. When he does sleep, it’s on the hospital floor. His meals are far and few in between.
“I don’t think about what I’m going to eat or whether I’m even going to get food. All I care about is saving our daughter, and if that means I have to skip meals to save money for her treatment, I see it as only a small sacrifice.”
Jaydeep has spent nearly 30,000 rupees on his baby’s treatment so far after borrowing from relatives and using his savings. But the little one needs to stay in the NICU for 2 more months to survive. Jaydeep and Arpita can’t afford the 3 lakhs needed to ensure she continues getting the right care and treatment.
These first-time parents need your support to take their baby back home. All they ever wanted was to have a small family of their own, and you can help make this happen.
