They’ve Left Everything Behind To Save Their Loved Ones, Help These Families Outside Delhi’s Hospitals

“One day during our feeding drive, a young man in a wheelchair came up to me and asked if we could help him feed his parents. He had no hair, looked weak and could barely manage to wheel himself around. He then mentioned that he was undergoing chemotherapy for rare condition and that his parents were old and sick themselves. They hadn’t been able to eat for a long time, so he had no option but to go around asking people for food. I will never forget the relief on their faces when we gave them their first meal. These are the stories that we come across, and these are the ones that keep us going.” - Mohit Bhatt, National Organisation For Social Empowerment 

“Countless people come to AIIMS hospital in Delhi to get treated, but because of the sheer number of people, there’s no place for caregivers inside the hospital. Many of them spend their nights on the road with little to no access to food or shelter. These people are from poor families and have often gone into debt trying to save their loved ones. Due to a lack of food, these caregivers fall sick themselves and are unable to look after their family members. We wanted to ensure they were well looked after and have been feeding people outside hospitals since 2019 and we’ve seen the difference one healthy meal a day has made.”

“We’ve seen rare condition patients who have no place to sit inside and even rest for a few minutes. They need all the rest and nutrition they can get, but their circumstances just don’t allow them that. The food we make is so hygienic and nutritious that it’s also distributed to rare condition patients as well.”

However, They Face Several Challenges & Need Your Help To Feed Many More 

One of the biggest challenges they face at National NGO Kitchen is the lack of funds. This hinders their ability to get groceries to feed more people in need. They also currently need one more vehicle to cover a larger area in a shorter span of time. Having just one van delays the meals in all five locations. 

“Now that people know about us, they wait for us to come and give them their next meal. But due to our challenges, we sometimes get delayed or fall short. We never want to let these people down. This is why we need your help to get groceries and a vehicle to feed healthy meals to many more people in Delhi, and one day, in every other part of India.” 

The volunteers of National NGO Kitchen are extremely motivated to change the lives of many more patients and their caregivers. Fighting deadly diseases takes a huge toll on the whole family, and through their meals, National NGO Kitchen wants to give them a little bit of support that can make a difference in their lives.

About the NGO: Started in 2019 by a group of volunteers under the National Organization For Social Empowerment, the National NGO Kitchen gives fresh and healthy meals to hundreds of people outside Delhi’s hospitals and slums every day. Their mission is to ensure no one in Delhi goes hungry ever again. They currently feed over 1000+ people outside hospitals in five locations in Delhi every day. They provide them with lunch that is made in a hygienic kitchen and is distributed freshly among those who spend hours waiting outside hospitals, braving the weather and anything that comes their way. Most of these people are underprivileged and struggle to afford their loved one's treatment. However, they’ve left everything behind to travel to Delhi and ensure their lives are saved.
