Project
There has been an outbreak of Corona and has been declared a pandemic by the WHO. Citizens across the world are hoarding up on groceries and food. This has caused panic and severe shortage of food across the country. Many of us are fortunate enough to afford to stock up in our homes. However, what about those who live in the slums?
Many of the children living in these slums cannot afford a day’s meal, let alone, stock up for the virus. They lack immunity and their only means of survival is the little food they can get from their day’s work. With the risk of being infected with the virus hanging around, there are very few who still think about the underprivileged people. Mr.Kishan is a humble man who is striving to put food on the plates for these children from the slums. A few years ago, Mr. Kishan, a retired police officer, saw the plight of thousands of children working to feed themselves.
“As a police officer, I didn’t just see criminals. I saw their childhood. I saw how they became criminals. Children on the roads often resort to stealing and committing crimes to survive. The lack of education and guidance turns them into criminals”,
says Mr. Kishan.
Many of the children come from families in which the parents are daily wage labourers. They merely earn Rs. 150 to Rs. 200 per day and cannot afford to send their children to school. They send their children to work as labourers so that their families can eat. When he saw the children dropping out of schools to work alongside their parents, Mr. Kishan knew he had to do something.
In the beginning, they had a tough time convincing the parents of these children to let them study. It was when he started providing food to these children from slums, that they came. He started providing nourishing meals along with education to help these children get a better life. Many parents sent their children so that they could eat a healthy meal.
“I am the son of a farmer. I studied without lights among diyas. These children don’t deserve that. They deserve a better life”,
says this humble police officer.
With the Corona pandemic running rampant around the world, there is severe shortage of food and groceries. The government declared that all schools, colleges, and institutions should be shut down. Mr. Kishan knows that with his schools and education centers being shut, the children will go back to manual labor again so that they can eat. With the severe shortage of food and with the Corona outbreak, he decided to provide food for the children at his centers. Even though the school cannot be opened, he’s striving to provide them with nourishing food.
He believes that by providing two meals a day, he can prevent hundreds of children from falling sick. There are more than 1000 children in nearby slums who need your help. He cannot aid them all due to lack of resources. You can donate grocery kits to Nirbhed and help this police officer provide nutritious meals to these children.
With a horrible disease out on the brink of disaster, and with the severe shortage of food. We should think about those who are less fortunate. These children do not have a healthy life. They lack immunity and are more prone to this dangerous virus. They can only survive if they eat. They cannot afford to stock up on food. And, without work, they cannot afford a day’s meal.
You can change that. You can provide quality food to these slum children amid the Corona scare by donating a grocery kit.
Donate now, to make a change in the lives of these young souls.
