“The pandemic has been a very challenging time for all of us. More than half of our residents were affected and so did our entire kitchen staff. Despite the difficulties, we trudged through and finally were able to overcome it. But the biggest blow was when we lost our dear founder, Geeta Shankar, to the dangerous pandemic. Always a pillar of strength, her death was a major setback to all of us,” - Gurunath KL, Trustee & Director-Finance, Omashram Trust. 

But as Gurunath rightly says, ‘the show must go on’, therefore, he has taken upon himself the responsibility to look after the 70+ senior citizens who now call Omashram their home. He wishes to give them a life of love and care.

In their final years, these senior citizens deserve happiness and comfort 

Based out of Bangalore, Omashram Trust works very hard to give senior citizens a place to call home, especially those who have been abandoned by their own. In the last 2 decades, they have been a ray of sunshine for over 1000 elderlies who had nowhere to go. 

“We have had grandmothers staying in our shelter homes out of their own choice. One of them had 12 children and none of them was ready to look after her, she had to do that on her own. We want to make Omashram a safe home for people like her.”

Here, the elderlies have all their needs taken care of - from nutritious food to medicines to hygiene requirements.They are loved and respected and in their final years, they are given all the happiness they deserve. 

However, finances have been a little tight, especially after the pandemic. Donations have reduced and hardly anyone comes to pay a visit to the elders.

“People are not willing to donate for the old - what’s the point, they say, they will die today or tomorrow! We are working very hard to change that mindset, to ensure that every senior citizen gets the best. But for that we need your support now.”

Omashram Trust needs groceries and hygiene products like adult diapers to look after its residents. Gurunath has been using up his own savings to run the shelter home but now even that is not enough. They need your support and they need it now.

Omashram Trust-Old Age Care, is a charitable trust founded in the year 2001 with the objective of providing care to the old. Omashram provides residential care with full boarding & lodging facility to the old with medical and nursing care to the old from underprivileged backgrounds.
