There are thousands of children across the country whose families are struggling to make ends meet. An outcome of limited access to basic needs is that children remain malnourished and unable to grow and develop to their full potential, affecting their lives and futures early on.

Reaching children from low-income communities

Our work across low-income communities focuses on preventing children from leaving home and taking up a life on the streets. Often, children run away from home and are abandoned and abused by families unable to take care of them. Food and nutrition become important needs for children that must be met by parents and families. When a child’s most basic need is not met, it begins a cycle of trauma, abuse, violence, and exploitation, that we work to prevent and end.

By providing nutritional grocery kits, we are addressing their immediate needs and also effecting long-term change in their lives. 

Healthy children = Healthy nation

Nutrition plays a crucial role in the physical and cognitive development of children. Adequate nutrition supports their growth, enhances their learning abilities, and strengthens their immune systems. As a result of growing global crises such as climate change, COVID-19, and food insecurity, vulnerable communities suffer the most, especially children.

We believe that by providing children from low-income communities and families with the right food and nutrition, we will build their immunity, improve their concentration, memory, and cognitive functions, enable them to pursue their education, acquire skills, and stay away from the cycle of poverty, violence, and abuse. 

Children need YOUR help

Our work across 5 communities in Delhi and Ghaziabad includes 3000+ community members, of whom almost 50% are children. With the provision of these nutritious grocery kits, children not only learn about healthy eating habits and food, but the nutritious diet also contributes to their physical health, resulting in a healthy mind for learning. 

About Railway Children India: Railway Children India is a child rights organization with a mission to create a world where no child ever has to live on the streets. Over the last 25 years, we have protected more than 100,000 children across 35 railway stations, trained a cadre of 40,000+ railway officials, and worked with child protection systems and stakeholders across the country.  Currently, our work involves direct intervention across 5 railway station slum communities in and around 3 states, protecting around 6000 children every year, of whom 90% are reunified with their families, and strengthening child protection action along the Delhi-Howrah railway network, reaching 35,000 children at risk across 34 districts and 64 railway stations over the next 5 years.
