After She Lost Her Mother To Rare Condition, This Teacher Is Now Rescuing Hundreds Of Poor People

Project
“My mother was fighting rare condition and I regularly took her to Tata Memorial Hospital for her treatment. That was when I noticed families huddled together outside the hospital, on the pavement - waiting for their turn to get treated. Most of them have been starving for days. I kept wondering if there was something I could do for them…” - Seema, Founder, Sarthak Charitable Trust.
Seema’s mother lost her fight to rare condition after a tough battle and while Seema was heartbroken, her resolve to help the poor and the underprivileged became stronger. Soon after her mother’s demise, she founded Sarthak Charitable Trust in Mumbai in 2018 to help countless homeless and abandoned souls.
With a little more than 100 residents, Seema’s shelter home is working tirelessly to give them a comfortable life
Seema is juggling a full-time job while she is running this shelter home. She believes in giving back to the community and is a school teacher who is touching several lives and making an impact. In her spare time, she makes arrangements for the residents of the shelter home, plans their diet, checks which medications need to be stocked up, etc.
“When I started this shelter home, I had no idea that one day so many people would be depending on my care. A few months ago, we rescued a 60 YO lady who has been living on the streets for many years now. We got a call about her when she met with a terrible accident and no one was ready to help her. She was in a terrible state, we didn’t think she would make it. But she did! She is now staying at our shelter and getting all the love and care she deserves. It makes me so happy to think that we were able to save her life.”
Seema works day and night for the homeless and the abandoned. Most of the residents who live at the shelter suffer from severe mental illnesses. As a result, it becomes impossible for her to track down their families. Sometimes, they get agitated and end up hurling things at the caretakers. But nothing deters Seema and her dedicated team. They do everything in their power to comfort them.
These people spend their final years in Seema’s care. She feeds them nutritious food and takes care of their medical needs as well.
There are so many people who need a place to stay - please help me save them
Since 2018, Seema has been using a large portion of her salary to run the shelter home. Apart from that, she has also been receiving donations from kind-hearted people who support her work. But even then it hasn’t been enough. There have been days when Seema had to buy groceries on credit so that she can continue feeding the residents. She is in need of urgent help.
“These residents are now my family, they’re my responsibility. I want to give them a life of happiness and comfort but I can’t do it alone. I need your help with groceries, medicines, and hygiene products. We also need an ambulance so that we can make more and more rescues. Currently, we are bringing in the rescues in a rickshaw - it is not very comfortable, especially for the old and sick ones.”
Every donation will make a difference - join hands with Seema and help her create a better world for the homeless and the abandoned.
