Help Signal Shala Spread The Light Of Education In The Lives Of Hundreds Of Street Children

The number of street children in India runs in lakhs. Unfortunately, these kids are not entitled to a happy and cheerful childhood. Throughout their life, all they know is pain and suffering. Begging by the roadside traffic signals, these children are almost forbidden to have a dream of their own, a dream of a better, brighter future.   “It is easy for anyone to say that these children should get the opportunity to go to mainstream schools. But it is essential to understand that they don’t have the same privileges as so many others. For them to absorb those benefits, they need to be at a position to do so. That is what we have been trying to do for them at Signal Shala,” - Bhatu Sawant, CEO of Samarth Bharat Vyaspith. They couldn’t go to the school, so we decided to bring the school to them Signal Shala is an innovative concept initialised by Samarth Bharat Vyaspith along with Thane Municipal Corporation, to provide education to underprivileged children living on signals in Thane, Maharashtra. They aim to make these children capable of adjusting themselves in the mainstream world.   Traditionally belonging to the Pardhi (hunter) community, these kids are all third generation immigrants whose parents take up odd jobs to feed the families. Their lives are fraught with ups and downs and they are in no position to send their children to school. More often than not, these kids are forced to beg at traffic signals or sell flowers, pens etc for a meagre amount. “It’s wrong to blame them too. Years of discrimination and mistrust has made them skeptical of anything new and modern. Moreover, with no food to fill their stomachs, they can’t even think of educating their children.”  Thus started Signal Shala on 14th June, 2016. The founders went on the streets to get hold of children in need of help. It started off with 5 children and now they have 40+ kids who get quality and all-round education that will help them to stand on their own feet.  Your support will help these kids go a long way With constant support from the teachers and the volunteers at Signal Shala, hundreds of children have got a better life. Some are doing diploma in engineering, while others have passed their 12th Board exams with flying colours. These kids now dare to dream to become doctors, teachers and pilots - all because of this school at the Teen Haath Naka signal of Thane.    “We want to help as many kids as we can.
