Remember when employee engagement was limited to office lunches and secret Santa games? Enjoyed by some, these activities were often repetitive and saw little enthusiasm from employees over time. However, over the last few years, things have changed. Not only were companies forced to be innovative due to the pandemic, but also ensured that it was leaving some sort of impact – on the employees, someone in need, or in the best-case scenario, on both!
Today, employee engagement has gone beyond what we’ve known all this while. And nothing reflects that better than our collaboration with Amazon India. 7 events in Hyderabad and Bangalore and the coming together of over 540 employees resulted in something spectacular. And despite the energetic music blaring through the speakers during the events, there was something even louder that shined through – people’s determination to make a difference.
An On-Going Crisis Made Worse By A Natural Disaster
Hunger is one of the biggest crises that plague India even today. And while millions continue to fight for survival, unforeseen circumstances only add to their challenges. The last few months have seen severe rainfall and floods in states all across the country, and Amazon’s Global Month of Volunteering in India was the perfect opportunity to help thousands of people impacted by the floods in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana,
From August to September, Donatekart partnered with Amazon to curate the perfect employee engagement activity that would change the lives of countless people. This meal-packing activity involved employees of Amazon India packing grocery kits containing rice, grains, sugar, salt, oil, turmeric and other essential grocery items which were aimed to help flood-affected families have healthy meals during the floods. Along with this, they also packed shelter kits containing bathing soap, detergent soap, mosquito nets, masks, and tarpaulin sheets among other important products which would help them make it through this crisis.
The Tremendous Impact
As anticipated, the turnout was incredible. Employees danced and sang through the volunteering event, helped each other and most of all, packed over 2440+ meal kits in total.
Over 960 grocery kits and 500 shelter kits were distributed to flood-affected families in Karnataka, 240 grocery kits were given to Smile Always Foundation in Hyderabad for orphaned children, and 600 and 648 grocery kits were distributed to families in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha respectively.
The event truly impacted countless lives and supported families during some of their toughest days.
“I’ve been sick for the last two years and haven’t been able to look after my family. And now these heavy rains have made our lives even more difficult. I’m so grateful to Amazon and Donatekart for helping us with grocery kits so that we don’t starve any longer. Our family is surviving all because of you.” – A beneficiary in Karnataka
