Mother Teresa rightly said, “If you cannot feed a hundred people, then feed just one.”

There are over 189.2 million undernourished people in India, which is 14% of our population. Poverty has left millions of families starving, with children going hungry for days together. These families can’t afford even a single meal on some days. Food is the need of the hour.

This is not new information. Newspapers, blogs, and documentaries are constant reminders about how much the poor and the underprivileged in India are suffering. Although the issue might seem too big to be tackled by one person, we are here to tell you that you can be a changemaker in your own right. Even a small but regular donation for people who can’t afford two square meals a day can make a huge difference.

These people have dedicated their lives to the poor in India – with DK-SIP they can do so much more

Speaking about the plight of the poor in India, Tarun Manav, Founder, Ann Patra India says,

9 years ago, I saw a man begging on the streets outside a government hospital. This prompted me to start an organisation that would feed hundreds of people in need. Our mission is to eradicate hunger. We depend on humble contributions from generous donors. The Donatekart Social Investment Plan is such a relief for us because we can be sure of a certain amount of ration kits reaching us.”

Ann Patra is one of our partner NGOs that have been an integral part of our DK-SIP program. They have received good-quality rice, chana dal, and other essential grocery items which will help them continue their mission of feeding hundreds of hungry souls.

Begging and starving are rife in India even after so many years. While several NGOs are working to uplift those on the fringes of society, there is so much more to do.

Diyanshu Upadhyay, Hope Welfare Trust, talks about how the DK-SIP program has been immensely helpful for the leprosy patients in Benaras

“They’re treated like social outcasts. There is so much stigma around leprosy patients and they’re forced to beg on the streets. With the monthly donations, they can now get nutritious food. The love and support that they have received from the community of donors have reinstated their faith in humanity,” – Divyanshu says.

With the consistent support of people who want to make India hunger-free, Hope Welfare Trust has received rice, dal, spices, oil, and many other essentials that will help them for months to come.
