Stories are everywhere nowadays. Our social media feeds are filled with people talking about their personal journeys, with some success stories, some stories of pain – but there’s never a dearth of them. It can be easy to get lost in this sea of stories, where sometimes people’s efforts go unnoticed. At Donatekart, we work closely with so many incredible people and NGOs who have dedicated their lives to the betterment of others – and their voices need to be heard.

Through #DonatekartSpotlight, we’ll focus on two causes every week to highlight their work, give you an in-depth look at their organisation, the people behind it and what makes it unique. These stories are all heart, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

Ganga Jangir and Yojana Gharat, though from different parts of India and unique backgrounds, share something in common – they know what it feels like to be all alone. Ganga, a single mother, and Yojana, an orphan, have both not let their life experiences bring them down. In fact, they decided to do something for those who can’t help themselves, they decided to save others from the same loneliness that they’ve seen. And the best part? Both their children support them in their incredible missions.

Ganga Jangir – Animal Activist

Ganga and her children were abandoned by her husband, her parents refused to take her in and for the first time, she was left all alone. However, this is when Ganga’s life changed for the better. A cat she rescued gave her purpose and hope again and she has been working for the betterment of stray animals in Bhilwara district, Rajasthan for more than 10 years now.

“My children also help me serve these animals, and now we have over 80+ sick and injured dogs and cars here. I do my best to give them a better life. I also spread awareness about the need for sterilization, the adoption of indie breeds, and how a community of animal lovers can help make a huge difference.”

For more than a decade now, Ganga has been looking after sick, injured, and abandoned stray animals. Read her story here.

Yojana Gharat – Founder of SMIT Old Age Home & Care Foundation

“I had grown up in the Missionaries Of Charity, Kolkata, and while l always had the teachings of  Mother Teresa to guide me, I knew the pain of growing up without the love and affection of your own family. That has been my primary motivation for supporting all those who are all alone in this world.”

SMIT Old Age Home and Care Foundation is a respite for all those who are alone in this world – in their final years, they have found love and support in Yojana. She has been working tirelessly to help provide a home and shelter to destitute senior citizens and now has 85+ seniors who are completely dependent on her. Both Yojana’s daughters, Vrushali and Mayuri, are actively involved in the foundation and oversee various aspects of its functioning.

Today, all the seniors living there are her extended family. She takes care of all of them as her own and works hard every day to give them a better life than they had before. Know more about Yojana’s selfless work here.
